The home of the inflatable movie screen, the AIRSCREEN Company are on their travels again. This time in Scotland to assist with the set up of one of the company’s most popular screen sizes. The 18 x 9m screen currently installed in Hopetown House is being used by British Bank RBS for their ‘RBS Film First’ open air cinema series.
Two AIRSCREEN employees were on hand to set up the brand new AIRSCREEN Classic and to provide expertise in the field of inflatable screens. AIRSCREEN – the inflatable movie screen in Croatia
The AIRSCREEN Company welcomes their new partner Via Solis from Zagreb.
One of the largest outdoor cinemas of Croatia, the “Screen on the Green”, is now taken place in Zagreb and Split. The films are shown on a 30ft. wide mobile screen. About 1000 spectators are visiting the screenings. The favourite movies so far were computer-animated blockbusters like “Up”, “Ratatouille” or “Wall-E”.
Rooftop cinema in Africa
A 5m x 3m AIRSCREEN was the perfect solution for a live screening at Masa Towers rooftop in Gaborone, Botswana. The ABSA Premier League game between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowners was shown on the mobile screen. More than 200 guests enjoyed the breathtaking view.
The Mamelodi Sundowners from Pretoria, 5-time champions and the most successful team in the Premier Division since 1997 attempted to defeat the Orlando Pirates. But the Pirates from Johannesburg won 3 – 1 and led the Sundowners to a deeper crisis. All guests were very enthusiastic to watch the high-class game on the inflatable movie screen no matter which team they cheered for.
Charlie Chaplin’s ‚The Great Dictator’ shown on an AIRSCREEN at Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate
On Friday 15th July 2011, the Chaplin Film series in Berlin kicked off with a very special viewing of the film ‘The Great Dictator’ in the shadows of the imposing Brandenburg Gate where the story begins.
80 years after Chaplin’s first visit to Berlin, the film was shown to an audience of around 1000 on an inflatable AIRSCREEN. Set in front of the Brandenburg Gate, the film is one of 80 of Chaplin’s that will be shown over the coming months in Berlin as part of the Chaplin film series.
Chaplin’s Daughter, the Dr. Zhivago actress Geraldine, was also in attendance, and was the special guest of the event. The use of an AIRSCREEN in the city centre of the German capital was no coincidence; its ease of transport, installation and take down was a huge advantage for the event organisers who will use the AIRSCREEN for further events.
Open air cinema wih AIRSCREEN in Thailand
AIRSCREEN – the original inflatable screen is already used in more than 60 countries around the World – among these Thailand.
Football (or Soccer) is the most popular sport in the Thai society. So it was not surprising to see Thais cheering their favourite English Premier League team in the city of Khon Kaen. On the 20’ x 11.25’ inflatable movie screen the audience watched the game Liverpool FC versus Manchester United.
Another event took place in the stadium of Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. In honor of King Rama IX a movie called “The Harmony of Love” was shown on two AIRSCREENS simultaneously. The whole outdoor cinema was looking very majestic.
Free Open-Air-Festival in Surry Hills, Australia
The OPTUS ONE80PROJECT is a joint initiative with MTV Australia – Searching for the next BIG idea for an Aussie TV drama. Now for the fifth year running, the OPTUS ONE80PROJECT has returned, giving you the chance to bring your ideas to life and win the opportunity to create your own TV drama to be aired on MTV, and hosted online and on mobile with a budget of $180,000.
People were invited to the OPTUS ONE80PROJECT Festival to see the screenings of the Top10 Entries on a big inflatable movie screen and announcing this years’ winners. The Festival also featured a live and exclusive DJ Set by Mark Ronson along with Live Performances by Bag Raiders and Soft War (Modular).
The decision of the winners came after several weeks of deliberation by Judges David Wenham Kat Stewart and members of BlueTongue Films, Joel and Nash Edgerton, David Michôd, Spenser Susser, Luke Doolan, Kieran Darcy-Smith and Tony Lynch who selected the Judges’ Choice winner from a shortlisted Top10. The winning entry “Sick” will now see their three minute pilot entry, developed into a one hour TV drama to be shown on MTV Australia and Optus ZOO.
High season for open air cinemas in Germany
Many open air cinemas have now begun to open their doors and more are going to follow in the coming weeks. More and more open air cinemas are using inflatable screens as they guarantee sublime viewing pleasure for everybody watching.
Since the beginning of July it has not been horses running at the racecourse in Krefeld, rather open air cinema events, on a 52ft. wide AIRSCREEN. Showing, are the latest blockbusters, films to make you think and also documentaries. Up to 800 people are able to watch and are sheltered from whatever the weather has to throw at them.
Meanwhile celebrations for the 10 year anniversary of the summer cinema in Gera are also underway. In the city’s ‘Hofwiesenpark’ comedy highlights are being shown on the inflatable screen meaning that this open air cinema is fun for all the family.
Also happening at the moment in Chemnitz are two outdoor cinema events. Up to 2000 cinema go-er’s can join for a film night. Using the successful concept as seen in Dresden, Chemnitz is also using a 20m x 10m AIRSCREEN for the first time. A colourful mixture of films will be shown here up until the end of august.
Also available on the artificial beach of Chemnitz are extra special films where fresh cocktails are also available. Making for a unique atmosphere which everybody is invited to enjoy.
Outdoor movies in South Florida – Inflatable screens make it easy to set up an open air
Watching movies outdoors: Since the 1960’s it happened at the drive-in theater. Nowadays the spirit of outdoor movies is still alive, but the format has changed.
Outdoor movies projected on inflatable screens are growing in popularity. Municipal parks and various venues see the outdoor movies as a way to satisfy the public’s appetite for shared entertainment.
Another advantage: most screenings are free. It is like a drive-in without the car. Big crowds of people enjoy movies outdoors. In Miami Beach movies are shown on inflatable screens in Flamingo Park, North Shore Youth Center Park and South Pointe. These park screenings already exist for a few years and up to 1,000 people are bringing chairs blankets and even picnic dinners.
Family-oriented communities have the chance to show a movie on the big screen in a neighborhood park. It encourages people to enjoy things they normally would do indoors. Many venues in South Florida like The Village of Biscayne Park, Palmetto Bay, Screen on the Green in South Miami or Barnacle Historic State Park in Coconut Grove will host their famous outdoor movie nights every year.
New year celebration in Georgia, USA
Each year Southern Outdoor Cinema projects the New Year’s Countdown on an AIRSCREEN in the historic coastal city of Savannah, GA.
For the last five years, the biggest party on New Year’s Eve in Savannah, GA has been at the City Market. With live music, confetti, horse-drawn carriage rides and a huge inflatable movie screen showing the ball drop in Times Square, City Market has become the city’s New Year’s Eve hub.
With the popularity of New Year’s Celebrations growing, cities are adding a new element to their celebration by incorporating large inflatable movie screens to broadcast the Times Square celebration on to.
Thousands of people gather together to cheer as the broadcast of the Times Square Ball Drop is projected onto the huge inflatable movie screen. With the addition of the live broadcast, cities on a smaller budget are able to provide the excitement of the Times Square celebration.
AIRSCREEN in Austria and Thailand
From now on the inflatable movie screen made in Germany is represented in over 60 countries around the world. In Thailand a 16m x 8m AIRSCREEN is used for open air festivals by the team of Fresh Air Festival. They are in charge of several indoor and open air events in Bangkok for over ten years now. The huge variety of Bangkok’s cultural schedule includes famous Thai acts and international stars like Deep Purple or the American Singer Jewel. Thousands of spectators enjoy the open air festivals in the capital of Thailand every year.
The first green inflatable screen found its way to Austria: A political party just as green as the screen organizes a mobile cinema since a few years. The travelling cinema was touring through the area of Vienna during the summer and presented movies including the Oscar-winning “Slumdog Millionaire” or the French comedy hit “Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis”.
Open-Air-Festival with inflatable screen in Italy
The Festival “Fotografia Europea” took place in Reggio Emilia in Italy. At the city’s historic main square a 52ft x 26ft AIRSCREEN was displaying video screenings of photographs while people were dancing to Livemusic. The famous musician Nitin Sawhney was presenting the show. Sawhney contaminates traditional sounds and classic music with electronic experiments and tribal rhythms taken from a wide variety of musical territories. More than 5000 spectators were enjoying the show in front of the inflatable screen.
Furthermore a show about the English band Joy Division and their lead singer Ian Curtis took place. Photographs from Kevin Cummins who had also worked with such bands like U2, The Clash, The Rolling Stones or David Bowie, were on display. The show also starred Peter Hook who was a founder and bass player of Joy Division.
Also many exhibitions like a tribute to the great photographer Man Ray and works from british photographer Michael Kenna who is well-known for his black & white landscapes, fashion photographer Mark Borthwick or the experimental work from the French Ange Leccia were some of the highlights of the new Fotografia Europea exhibition programme.
AIRSCREEN in Australia
Recently many outdoor movie events took place in Australia. Each time an inflatable movie screen was blown up to show films outside.
Many spectators have seen Blockbusters like “Avatar” or “Sherlock Holmes” at the “Starlight Cinema” at North Sydney Oval.
Every January “Movies in the Overflow” (based in the Olympic Park of Sydney) also offers public screenings of recently released films and also a selection of classic films.
Another stunning location in Sydney is the Belvedere Amphitheatre, Centennial park, which can host up to 3,000 visitors.
In New South Wales “Flix in the Stix” brings short films to the masses. The Festival hits miscellaneous towns and showed movies to over 4,000 patrons so far.
Last but not least the first annual Warrambeen Film Festival took place near Melbourne. They also use several inflatable movie screens and were very impressed how easy you can show movies outdoors.

Dual-themed event reinvents outdoor movie nights
A new form of outdoor movies started in the USA. Several food trucks and a giant inflatable movie screen are uniting food and film lovers all across Los Angeles. The Outdoor Cinema Food Fest is showing classic films like “Pulp Fiction” or “Ferris Bueller`s Day off” on a 52 feet wide AIRSCREEN which is the largest outdoor movie screen on the West Coast. While the sun is setting movie lovers are enjoying delicious meals from different gourmet food trucks.

There are also special happenings on Halloween weekend. “Zombieland” will be shown in the Corn Fields (Chinatown) on 30th of October. On the 31st of October Outdoor Cinema Food Fest features “The Shining” in Exposition Park where Jack Nicholson will scare the people once again. Public Viewing with AIRSCREEN in the Netherlands
Lately football fans from Venlo had the opportunity to watch the championship game VVV-Venlo vs. HFC Haarlem on a 12 by 6 metre AIRSCREEN.
The inflatable screen was installed in front of the city hall. It was a memorable moment with a great atmosphere for hundreds of fans. All of them acclaimed the 1-0 victory of VVV Venlo winning the Jupiler League championship. For a temporary event like this AIRSCREEN is the perfect solution.
